The Men’s First Team had a fantastic weekend scoring 12 goals and keeping two clean sheets in two games which were dominated by Urmston.

Saturday’s game took them away to Knutsford who have been newly promoted into this division and despite their strong defence and quality goalkeeping, Urmston managed to slot 5 goals past them to take the win. There was some superb movement and play from the midfield opening up gaps and creating chances throughout the game, this was supported by an elegant display from the defence, Mike Power doing what was needed between the sticks to ensure the well-deserved clean sheet.

Two goals came from Charlie Weems, one from a well worked short corner and the second from some good movement and a calm finish from a tight angle. Andy Power battled hard, slotting two past the Knutsford keeper leaving Joe Coxon to add another to his tally. Man of the Match was Steve Brittle who did some devastating runs and got himself into plenty of space to trouble the Knutsford defence.

Sunday brought the National England Hockey Men’s Cup in a very tough game at home by a professional well worked Ben Rhydding side from Yorkshire who are two divisions above in the North Premiere league. Urmston set off in strong and fine style getting a couple of goals early on and finding themselves 3-0 up at half time. The second half brought more of the same with some outstanding play all over the pitch making the final score 7-0. Man of the Match was Charlie Weems who controlled the middle and proved very troublesome for Ben Rhydding.

All in all, a very good weekend for the Urmston side who await the draw for the next round of the cup which will take place on the 1st of November and hope they can take the hard work and team play to the rest of the season.
