Season finale looms large as Men's 1s close in on title

Fidler picks up Man of the Match as Men's 1s close in on title with second whitewash in two weeks while goalkeepers impress across the club.

James Duke’s brace set the Men’s 1st XI on course for another emphatic win as they beat Winnington Park Men’s 1st XI 5-0.

Pete Wood, Stefan Wasileski and Ollie Cooper joined him on the scoresheet as Luke Fidler (pictured) picked up the Man of the Match vote on his debut.

They now face three games as they chase down the title including a season finale hosting title-rivals Alderley Edge who are ahead on points but narrowly behind on goal difference.

Carolynn Barratt picked up the Players’ and Opposition’s Player votes for the Ladies’ 2nd XI as they were held to a last-minute 1-1 draw.

Moe Rothwell scored the Greens’ goal against Stockport Bramhall Ladies’ 3s while Louise Dickenson impressed in goal despite traditionally being a left half.

Jude Ashworth was in fine form again for the Ladies’ 1st XI as they succumbed 3-0 to Alderley Edge Ladies’ 1st XI.

Facing an array of talented youngsters, the Greens held their resolve in a respectable result against the league-leaders with goalkeeper Ashworth keeping them at bay.

A threadbare Men’s 2nd XI suffered 4-1 at the hands of Springfield Men’s 1s with Humza Ahmed getting their only goal.

Man of the Match Richard Gorman’s debut between the sticks included an impressive penalty stroke save.

The Men’s 3rd XI fell 5-0 to a strong City of Manchester 4s with Tom Raikes picking up another Man of the Match vote.

Elsewhere, the Ladies’ 3rd XI lost 2-0 to a strong Manchester Moss Park Ladies’ 3s despite a stellar performance from Players' and Opposition's Player Issy Povah.
