Men's 3rd Team

Captain: Derek Milne
Vice Captain: Ashley Wasilewski
League: Kukri North West Hockey League Division 6 North
Training: TBC

This coming season: The now Urmston 3rd team was established in the 2005/06 season. Derek Milne took a combination of fresh 17 year olds and experienced veterans and entered them into the Kukri North West Hockey League Division 10 North which is the lowest league available at club level. This team gelled quickly and managed to finish in 4th position which was good enough that year to give them promotion. In the 2006/07 season the then 4th team also finished 4th but unfortunately there was no room for promotion. In the 2007/08 season Urmston were favourites to finish top and that they did in a close battle with Carlisle. The 2008/09 season also brought success, this time finishing 2nd behind Ormskirk and another promotion. This season they will be competing in the Kukri North West Hockey League Division 7 North. That is three promotions in four seasons and a win rate of an amazing 70.46%. The 3rd team have played 79 matches in their history, scoring an outstanding 322 goals and conceding 138.

This year there is some stiff competition for places with both Duncan Hood and Leroy Sawyers hoping to be the 3rd team goalkeeper. At the moment there are four defenders for only three starting places, these are Simon Davies, Kev Crooks, James Taylor and James Kelly, each player having strong defensive capabilities. The midfield welcomes Scott Marsh who previously played in defence, it has been noticed that he has more to offer at both ends of the field. Chris Martin is the fitness machine of the midfield who's main asset is his work rate. Andy Lowe this season looks now to be the holding midfielder after the retirement of veteran Phil Shiels. Darren Moffat often plays out wide in midfield with Rob Skelley and his amazing bursts of pace. There is also a selection headache upfront with four players going for 3 places. Ashley Wasilewski is the main striker and has probably the best goal scoring record throughout the leagues. James Smith plays right forward and his main asset is his ability to chase back and nick the ball from unsuspecting opposition. Mike Tonge plays left forward and often stretches the play out wide. Owen Monk is the real youngster of the squad who many see as the next big striker. Derek Milne is the captain and umpire and is a bit of a genius when it comes to picking the players and the formations.

Urmston as a club is the 18th most successful and 14th best performer throughout the whole of the North West Hockey Leagues.
