Weʼre raising £3,000 to Support Urmston HC Mens 1st XI, Cancer Research UK and MIND in light of COVID-19

We're running 2633km between the Urmston HC lads over the period of July. That's the distance we travel to and from away games in our league this season.

With the help of JustGiving, 50% of your donation goes to Cancer Research UK and MIND to support their ongoing hard work and the remaining 50% goes to Urmston HC Mens 1st Team Support Fund.

The Urmston Hockey Club lads have been thinking hard about how we can multi-task (not our strong point) and we wanted to give something back to the charities that are struggling with donations in light of the Covid-19 situation. We also wanted to raise some funds for our team, given the inability to hold our normal summer tournament, summer league and social events during lockdown. As a club that relies on annual membership and fundraising to cover our costs, this has hugely impacted us ahead of the proposed new season to start later this Autumn. Rather than going for government funding (that's better left to the businesses that really need it and the healthcare and education sectors) we thought we‘d ask you!

Urmston HC has been providing local hockey for the community across Urmston, Stretford, Davyhulme and Flixton in Southwest Manchester for over 30 years and is a relatively small, local level club but with aspirations beyond our funding levels. Unlike other hockey clubs we’re not blessed with 20 teams, 1000’s of members, massive sponsors or wealthy benefactors. We’re more like; 7 senior teams, a growing junior section and 150 hard working members. As a result, every penny counts and anything we can raise will be hugely beneficial to our short term needs and long term growth and social outreach.

We’re seeking to raise funds for: coaching of the Men's top level teams (£3400), new goal netting (£130), new goal bolts (£55), a new set of goals (£3000) and team accommodation (£415). This is a tall order, so we’re starting small to begin with.
