Urmston Women’s 1s vs Didsbury Northern 3s
1-2
Urmston Women’s 1s showed clear signs of progress with an excellent, high-spirited performance against a physical Didsbury Northern 3s side, narrowly coming away on the wrong side of a 2–1 scoreline. Building on coach Mike’s guidance, Urmston played brilliantly as a cohesive unit, tightening up their marking and showing far more determination to win 50/50 battles across the pitch.
After a tightly contested first half ended 0–0, the second half delivered plenty of action. Didsbury struck first to take a 1–0 lead, but Urmston held their ground and fought back valiantly. Jennie found the equalizer with a goal that agonisingly trickled over the line to bring the sides level. Kit was exceptional in goal, pulling off several amazing saves to keep Urmston right in the fight. Heartbreakingly, Didsbury managed to capitalise on a short corner with just three minutes left on the clock to claim the win.
Players’ Player went to Laura for an outstanding shift, covering every inch of the pitch with relentless attacking runs and a non-stop work rate.
Wally of the Week went to Jennie for scoring possibly the slowest rolling goal in club history.
A performance full of fight that proves the squad is moving rapidly in the right direction.
Urmston Men’s 1s vs Buxton 1s
2-2
Urmston Men’s 1s played out a dramatic and event-filled 2–2 draw against Buxton 1s. Up against it from the opening whistle after starting the match with only ten men, Urmston relied on goalkeeper Alfie early on, who made a series of fine stops—including a brilliant double save—to keep Buxton down to a single goal. Urmston then struck back on a swift counter-attack when Aero sent a precise through ball to Big Nasty, who finished smartly to send the teams into the break tied at 1–1.
The second half brought even more chaos. Jamil endured a rollercoaster game, missing an open net and mishandling a short corner injection, but fully redeemed himself by winning a penalty corner shortly after. Tim stepped up to power home a crisp drag flick, putting Urmston 2–1 ahead. Drama followed when Bilal received a green card for asking the umpire a question, which was quickly upgraded to a yellow for simply looking back at him. Down to ten men in the closing stages, a late error from Aero allowed Buxton to intercept in midfield and work a quick back-post tap-in to snatch a 2–2 draw in the final minutes.
Players’ Player was earned by Alfie for his heroic displays in goal to keep Urmston in the match.
Wally of the Week went to Jamil for his eventful combination of a missed open goal, a botched injection, and winning the crucial PC.
