Urmston Women's 2s v Sale 3
0 - 1
Urmston Women's 2s put in a strong performance against Sale with new players Sara Cinca and Samyu Ganesh impressing on their debuts.
Sara came close to opening the scoring but was denied by a sharp save by Sale's keeper.
Urmston dominated possession with Georgia O-Toole-Smart driving down the right and Emma Brittain supporting well with Georgia Boothroyd.
Chances fell to Jas Stainton, Emma and Georgia, but the goal just wouldnt come.
Sale struck early in the second half to get their winning goal, but Urmston continued to push through the wind and rain until the sun broke through for the final whistle.
Player of the Match went to Rachael Power for her solid performance in midfield, breaking up play and leading from the front.
Wally of the Week went to Jas Stainton after bravely blocking two lifted hit-outs with their knee.
Brooklands-Poynton 2 v Urmston Women's 1s
3 - 0
It was a tough day at the office on Saturday for Urmston Women's 1s. Missing some key players really took it's toll.
Whilst during the first half it was quite an end-to-end game with both teams countering, there was a ten minute period in the second half where Urmston fell away and conceded three quick goals.
Despite regaining their composure, it was too late for Urmston to pull anything back.
Player of the Match went to Amy Querlioz for battling through being poorly and showing her grit and determination.
Wally of the Week went to Kate Entwistle for forgetting she had the pitch keys for training.
Urmston Men's 1s v Bebington 1
3 - 2
What should have been a clinical victory for Urmston, turned into a battle to earn the points.
Urmston were not successful enough when attacking with Bebington having some fast players down the wings receiving long balls to counter.
Jacob Moreton opened the scoring to go 1 - 0 up followed by Sam Entwistle exploiting the midfield as he went on an amazing run playing several passes to reach the goal line making it 2 - 0. This would surely save him from any Wally of the Week votes.
Bebington began their attack and Urmston conceded two goals before Andy Power stepped up to net the winner with his classic dragflick.
Not the best team performance, but the three points were secured.
Player of the Match went to Andy Power for a big performance and an important goal.
Wally of the Week went to Sean Barrett for using his body a little too much when tackling and scoring an own goal.
Urmston Men's 2s v Bolton 2
5 - 4
After dominating the opening period of the game, Urmston went into a well-deserved 2 - 0 lead with goals from Oliver Cooper, one of which was magnificently aided by Zak 'Attack' Ahmed.
Urmston lost a bit of pace to a young, maneuverable Bolton side who pulled a goal back after some good work in their midfield.
Thankfully, Richie May gave Urmston their two goal cushion back just before half-time making it 3 - 1.
Urmston's solid first half performance was thrown away in a 15 minute onslaught by Bolton as they scored 3 unanswered goals to give them a deserved 3 - 4 lead.
There's a saying in these parts though.... 'Cometh the hour, cometh the man' and in stepped Oliver Cooper.
After already scoring two goals, some excellent work by the Urmston team created two short corners, both of which were expertly dispatched into the back of Bolton's net with two exquisite drag flicks by Oliver.
Special mentions go to Steve Holland, Richie May, Nick Wilson and Zak 'Attack' Ahmed as well as the rest of the team for not lying down after going behind and fighting to the end.
Player of the Match went to Richie May.
Urmston Women's Development Team v Horwich 2
0 - 1
Another great performance from our development team at the weekend.
The girls started off strong, attacking down the wings with some good link up play.
Whilst Urmston had several shots on goal, they just didnt cross the line.
Horwich fought their way back into the game in the second half, forcing some fantastic saves by stand-in goalkeeper, Vicky Edwards.
Urmston created more chances as the goal went on and continued to battle hard.
Player of the Match went to Serena Vickers for her solid performance.
Junior Performances
Training has been back for the last month for our junior members with Star of the Week being awarded to Corey and Yusuf recently.
Last week, the Under 12s played and were fantastic.
The girls won three matches easily but lost one. Elizabeth was voted Player of the Day.
The boys lost one game, drew two games and won one game v Bowdon. Ray and Dexter played well and were determined to win!!
This week, the Under 8s (affectionately known as The Jelly Tot Gang) played nine games in their tournament.
The team did really well in a different game format to what they are used to.
The Under 14s also played in their first tournament of the season and, for the majority, it was their first year playing in this age group given they had progressed from the Under 12s.
The whole team played well together with Bea and Serena playing out from the back, Holly, Henry and Brooke in midfield and Joel and Dexter upfront.
Some close games and great performances.
Star of the Week went to Bea - following in the footsteps of her siblings.
