In a fiercely competitive clash against South Manchester, Urmston Men’s 2s produced a committed and spirited performance, despite narrowly going down 2-1 in the latter stages.
The first half was end-to-end from the outset, with both teams showing strong intent. Urmston looked lively in attack, with Nate Illsley finishing clinically to give his side the lead after a slick passing move carved open the defence. The goal sparked momentum, with Urmston maintaining good structure and linking play through midfield.
South Manchester responded well and were rewarded with an equaliser just before half-time after a sustained period of pressure - setting up a tense second period.
The second half was a real battle, with neither side giving an inch. Urmston’s defence held firm through wave after wave of attacking play, while transitions from defence to attack kept South Manchester honest. The midfield worked tirelessly to win the ball and feed the forwards, and there were numerous moments that drew applause from both benches.
The decisive moment came late in the game when South Manchester were awarded a short corner. Their execution was clinical, and the ball was tucked away to make it 2-1.
Despite the disappointing result, Urmston’s performance was full of positives. The team showed great resilience, worked hard as units across the pitch, and never stopped competing. Confidence remains high in the squad, and with this level of commitment, good results are certainly around the corner.
Urmston Ladies 1s vs Didsbury Northern 3s

Urmston travelled away this weekend to face Didsbury Northern 3s, taking a mixed squad of 1s and 2s players. Despite the combination, the team settled quickly and competed well throughout, holding their own and creating several promising chances going forward.
Urmston moved the ball well and applied pressure in attacking areas, but were unable to convert their opportunities. Didsbury proved more clinical, taking their chances and eventually securing a 3-0 win.
There were still plenty of positives for Urmston, with Player of the Match awarded to Jess Buckley for her pace, skill, and impact throughout the game.
Wally of the Week was shared between Kate Entwistle for a dramatic fall that resulted in her subbing herself, and Emily Fell for her impressive shot count, unfortunately without finding the back of the goal.
A strong team effort with lots to build on heading into the next fixture.
Urmston Development Team vs Didsbury

Urmston Development Team were involved in a very even and hard-fought match against a physical Didsbury side this weekend. The game was competitive from the outset, with both teams battling well across the pitch.
Didsbury opened the scoring in the first half following a breakaway attack. Urmston responded positively and were rewarded when Ella Boothroyd scored a well-taken goal to level the match.
The second half was end-to-end, with Urmston enjoying a strong spell of pressure and creating chances, but unable to find a second goal. Despite the effort and momentum, Didsbury managed to edge ahead late in the game with a late winner.
Urmston were unlucky not to take something from the match after a committed team performance.
Players’ Player went to Rosa O’Boyle after a strong and consistent display.
