Reports from the weekend of 7 March 2026

Urmston Ladies 2s vs Buxton Ladies 2s
2-0

The Ladies 2s secured a fantastic 2-0 victory against Buxton in a dominant display. Urmston started strongly, creating a flurry of early chances, though they initially struggled to find the back of the net. The deadlock was eventually broken by Jaz, whose persistence paid off to put Urmston ahead.

The momentum continued into the second half, highlighted by a spectacular individual effort from Maisie. She embarked on an incredible run down the right wing, driving all the way to the D before threading a precise pass through a crowd of players to find Mel at the far post for a clinical finish. Nell and Georgia controlled the center of the pitch with excellent attacking play, supported well by Becky in midfield.

Players’ Player was awarded to Maisie for her game-changing assist, while Wally of the Week went to Debra for a narrowly missed sitter just before the final whistle.

Urmston Ladies 1s vs Wrexham Ladies
0-2

Urmston Ladies 1s faced a tough challenge against a clinical Wrexham side this weekend. Despite a determined performance and several periods of sustained pressure, the Ladies were unable to break through the Wrexham defence. The visitors took their chances well, resulting in a 2-0 defeat for the home side.

There were plenty of positives to take into next week, with Players’ Player being split between Georgia and Edie for their tireless work rates. Wally of the Week went to Brady for a few moments to forget on the pitch.

Urmston Men’s 1s vs Oxton
2-4

In an entertaining and fast-paced encounter, Urmston Men’s 1s fell just short in a 4-2 loss. Urmston showed great character to stay in the game, with Oli Heneghan netting the first goal and Andy Power grabbing the second to keep the pressure on the opposition.

Despite the result, the team's work ethic was undeniable. Sean Barrett picked up Players’ Player for a massive shift across the pitch. Wally of the Week was handed to Humza Ahmed for a spectacular "swing and a miss" that provided some entertainment for the sidelines.

Urmston Men’s 2s vs Rochdale Men’s 2s
0-5

The Men’s 2s came up against a very strong Rochdale side this week. The visitors gave Urmston a masterclass in the art of closing down play quickly as a cohesive unit. While the 5-0 scoreline was tough, this "up and coming" Urmston side will have taken plenty of notes on the tactical discipline required at this level. A great learning curve for the squad—onwards and upwards for the next fixture.

Urmston Ladies Development vs Wigan Development
2-3

It was a pulsating, end-to-end game for the Ladies Development team against Wigan. The visitors started at pace, scoring within the first 10 minutes, but Urmston showed fantastic resilience to fight back.

The attacking trio of Brooke, Holly, and Serena linked up brilliantly throughout, supported by Ciara who controlled the tempo from midfield. Goals from Holly and Ella kept Urmston in the hunt until the final whistle, but Wigan managed to edge the contest by a single goal. Players’ Player went to Brooke for her constant threat in the final third.

Urmston U14 Tournament

The Under 14s enjoyed a fabulous afternoon of hockey, with every single member of the squad giving 100% effort. Special mention goes to Bea, who took on the goalkeeping pads for the first time and did a sterling job. She was well-protected by a solid defensive rotation of Serena, Seb, Ray, and Holly, with the latter two showing great versatility by switching between the backline and the left wing.

Henry was a powerhouse in midfield, while Brooke caused constant problems for the opposition on the right wing. Dexter did a brilliant job of orchestrating the attacks. Across 6 matches, the team recorded 3 wins, 2 draws, and just one narrow loss. With 8 goals shared across the entire squad, it was a truly great team performance. Well done to all!
