Urmston Men’s 2s v Bolton 3
7 – 2
Urmston had an early start on Saturday with an 11:30am pushback against Bolton 3s.
The start of the game was slightly delayed as Urmston sportingly waited for a couple of Bolton stragglers to arrive. However, that was the only sporting act Urmston were prepared to show Bolton as within two minutes of pushback, Jamil Ahmed had opened his and Urmston’s goalscoring account.
Within 16 minutes, Urmston were up 3 – 0 with Jamil and Zak ‘Attack’ Ahmed adding to the scoreline.
Bolton pulled one back from a short corner, but by half-time Urmston were cruising with a 5 – 1 scoreline thanks to Player of the Match, Zak, getting his second goal and Ray Adamson grabbing his first of the day.
The second half was a more subdued affair only punctuated with Jamil grabbing his hat-trick and Ray getting a second goal.
A great performance saw Urmston finish the game 7 – 2 winners.
Special mentions to our junior trio of Zak, James Coupe and Savith Soni whose non-stop running, tackling and dribbling were exceptional.
Wally of the Week went to Ian Entwistle for moving Andy Shenton into position before trying to decapitate him from a free hit. Ian says he is sooooo sorry, Andy!!
Urmston Men’s 1s v Chester 2
3 – 2
Another battle for Urmston with an important win to bring the team to 6th in the league.
The opposition scored first before Andy Power netted an equaliser with a short corner.
A few moments later, Andy was back at it again with a rocket from the top of the D to make it 2 – 1 at half-time.
Not long into the second half, Chester managed to squeeze one in from an Urmston error, but Andy scored a drag flick with two minutes to go to secure the win for Urmston.
Player of the Match went to Alfie Ray for making some crucial saves.
Wally of the Week went to Bilal Ahmed for spending a bit too long on the floor after a foul.
Liverpool Sefton 2 v Urmston Women’s 1s
2 – 0
Urmston travelled over to Liverpool for a late fixture on Saturday.
The team knew it would be a tough game with some key players missing and others battling on through injury.
Liverpool had some strong attacks, but these were extinguished by Urmston with some key saves by stand-in goalkeeper Mel Whinfrey.
Whilst Urmston had some good breaks, Liverpool managed to squeeze a goal in to make it 1 – 0 at half time.
Not long into the second half, Liverpool secured their win with a second goal, but this did not phase Urmston.
Urmston continued to attack at any opportunity with long balls out from the back by Jessica Buckley and some fantastic runs up the pitch by Emily Fell.
Unfortunately these did not lead to a goal, but showed the desire and spirit of the team.
A special mention to Lucy Ross for playing in her first game for the team this season and holding her own against a tough Liverpool defence.
Player of the Match went to Emily Fell for her skill and strength when getting from one end of the pitch to the other.
Wally of the Week went to Amy Querlioz for her poor attempt at directing Mel to the pitch and mixing up her left and right.
Urmston Women’s Development v Wigan Development
1 – 1
Urmston hosted Wigan on Sunday at home.
Wigan started off very organised and raring to go, but they were held off by some lovely play in midfield by Ciara Carruthers, Rosa O’Boyle, Serena Vickers and Mel Winfrey.
There were several attacks from Urmston, but the strong backs of Wigan denied us a goal.
Wigan scored on a counter attack against the run of play, but this only spurred Urmston on.
With some lovely interchanging play and lots of passion, Urmston won several short corners. One of these was saved by the Wigan goalkeeper only to be slotted into the net from the rebound by Nell Chadwick.
Wigan had some handy players, but Urmston were able to snuff them out for the majority of the game.
Whilst it was a 1 – 1 draw, there are lots of positives to take from the game.
Player of the Match went to Nell Chadwick for some lovely interceptions, great passing and a well deserved goal.
Well done to Suji Banerjee, Rosa, Ciara, Mel and Jas Stainton who also received votes.
Junior Training
