It was 'goals-a-plenty' in the Ladies 1s first friendly of the new season against Didsbury Greys in a game played in a mixture of monsoon and sub-tropical heat. First goal of the season was bagged after just one minute of play by Isobel Seed with a sneaky push into the bottom corner. Stacey Brown converted just 9 minutes later with a long range sweep from the edge of the 'D' to make is 2-0. Didsbury got one back before Faye Wilson bagged her first goal for the 1s! Ably assisted by Isobel Povah, Wilcon pirouetted in the 'D', left her marker for dead, and with a coolness belying her years casually slotted home. Lois Oliver, Isobel Thornley and Halle Sadri all worked hard in midfield to maintain the Urmston lead going into half time.
Half Time 3-1.
After the break Didsbury picked themselves up and grabbed a couple early second-half goals to make it 3-3 and a ding-dong battle ensued. A lovely run and pass by the rampaging Wilson set up Stacey Brown for her second of the day. The 4-3 lead didn't last long as Jess Walton, Danielle Harvey and Claire Mulligan succumbed after waves of Didsbury counter-attack. Urmston's lead was restored when Becky Dean converted a reverse shot from the middle of the 'D', before Didsbury equalized (again!). Hard-hitting Harvey grabbed her first goal of the season after stepping up to take a short corner then converting in the second phase. With the score 6-5 Rachel Kelly made a nuisance of herself in the Didsbury area and grabbed a well-deserved goal with her persistence. A Kelly second followed a minute or two before the final whistle maling it Urmston Ladies 1s 8 (eight) - 5 Didsbury Greys.
