Amongst the Isle of Man team was ex-Ursmton Men’s 2nd team captain, Mike Taylor. Mike (with some input from his son, Luke) produced a match report for the game:

The Isle of Man Team played a slightly younger Urmston Team, clearly jet lagged by the arduous 20 minute flight from the island to Liverpool, the Isle of Man Team were slow out of the blocks.

The off the ball running of the Urmston youngsters Derek Milne and Harry Greenalgh stretched the Isle of Man defence leaving gaps for the likes of Joe Coxon, Luke Taylor & Paul Masterton. Urmston’s first scorer was Mike Shenton (the old Shenton) who was clearly disoriented as he found himself in the opposition D, the ball luckily deflecting off his stick into the goal.

Urmston’s second goal was a reverse stick finish from the Luke Taylor (the younger Taylor) that got a fortunate deflection off a defender leaving the Isle of Man keeper stranded.

The 2nd half continued to see the greater fitness of Urmston team overwhelm the Isle of Man team. Goals were added by Andy Shenton (the younger Shenton) with a looping effort from the top of the D taken on the half volley (goal of the night), Nasty (Paul Masterson) with a back post finish after some slick passing moves, and Freddie (Sam Brocklehurst) with a back post tap in from about one yard (it’s all about being in the right position, right Freddie?).

Then came the highlight of the evening, a few beers in Fallowfield followed by a curry at The Shere Khan.

A thoroughly enjoyable evening had by all and the Isle of Man look forward to welcoming the Urmston team to the island next year for the return fixture.
